about

Georgia based producer, Bearhead A.K.A Alexander Aultman, is all set to release his Collective Resonance debut, DTB (Dirty Tape Beats), on December 7th 2014. This also happens to be his 21st birthday. The project consists of a collection of beats he has created between late 2013 and mid 2014.

To shed some light on the creative process going into the album, Alex tells us that he was mainly manipulating sounds and samples using his MPC and laptop. He was blending both analogue and digital techniques, in order to create these densely lo-fi, yet polished sounding instrumentals. These are the result of transferring the live mixes onto cassette tapes, with the intention of revisiting them later and adding some final touches on the computer.

Though the album has a very decayed sound, Alex has expressed that the cassette was responsible for only part of the overall sound of DTB, as many of the sounds were also drenched in multiple effects. He also wanted to share some of his influences and thoughts going into this project...

"When I started making tracks for this album, it wasn't initially going to be an album. I was just making beats on the side of everything else I was doing at the time. I was getting really into Madlib's Quasimoto albums and a lot of MF Doom. I felt inspired to make music like that, to make straight Hip Hop beats. But as it always does, chords and melodies seem to be my main focus. I didn't want these songs to sound like generic instrumental boom bap beats. So really, they are more songs than they are beats."

The full album will be available for download from this page on December 7th. It will also be available to purchase via iTunes, Amazon, Spotify and all the major online outlets. Limited edition cassette copies shall also be available very soon.
